About this Indigo Wave
The crested form of Myrtillocactus geometrizans, the Blue Myrtle Cactus of central and northern Mexico. Cresting (fasciation) happens when the growing point mutates from a single tip into a line, so instead of a normal blue-green column the plant builds undulating, brain-like fans of waved ribs — every crest grows into its own one-of-a-kind sculpture. Like the straight species it wants full sun, sharp drainage, and a dry winter rest, and the frosted blue skin colors best with plenty of light.
A seven-dollar Walmart find — the tag reads "Indigo Wave." It joins the 'Fukurokuryuzinboku' as the second Myrtillocactus in the collection, potted in a wide glazed bowl topped with river pebbles. Will probably go on the front table at the Norman house.
