Living Room — Gaussian Splat
A living room, scanned in 3D and rendered live in WebGL. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom, right-drag to pan, and copy a link to the exact view you are looking at.
What you're looking at
A 3D Gaussian splat, not a mesh. The room is about 1.1 million translucent ellipsoids, each with a position, scale, rotation, color and opacity. Every frame they are depth-sorted and drawn back to front, which gives splats their soft, photoreal edges where triangle meshes look plasticky.
Pipeline
Captured on an iPhone walkthrough with Scaniverse, which trains the splat on the device. The 273 MB export is compressed to 25 MB by dropping the spherical-harmonics color and quantizing to 16 bits, then served from S3 and CloudFront and rendered with Three.js.
