About this Torch Cactus
The Torch Cactus is a robust columnar cactus that branches freely at the base, forming dense, impressive clumps over time. Mature plants typically reach 2–4 feet tall. Its blooms are the main attraction — large, funnel-shaped flowers spanning 4–6 inches across (sometimes up to 9 inches), opening during the day and drawing in bees and butterflies. It typically flowers from midwinter through early spring, with some varieties blooming into the warmer months.
This is one of the more cold-tolerant cacti, capable of handling brief frosts down to 15°F as long as it stays dry. It thrives in full sun and well-draining soil, and is generally low-maintenance once established. Water sparingly, especially in winter, and avoid letting it sit in soggy soil.
