Putting It Together: Bass-Note Strumming & the Band

You have rhythm, lead, and power. Now the polish: the "color" chords real songs lean on (sus, add9, slash), and the boom-chuck — plucking a chord's bass note, then strumming the chord, alternating bass notes as you go. The capstone is the part no other lesson site has: every songbook song has isolated tracks, so you can mute the guitar and play live with the rest of the band.

Concepts

Color chords (sus, add9, slash) are tiny variations on chords you know — one finger moved.

Boom-chuck: thumb/pick plays the bass string, then you strum the chord. Alternate which bass note you hit.

On any songbook song with isolated tracks, mute the guitar and play along — you are now in the band.

Graduation

Play a full song start to finish along with its isolated tracks, guitar muted — you are playing with the band.
