Minor Chords and Moving the Box

Minor chords are where songs get their ache and their cool. With Em, Am, A, and E you complete the full set of open chords. Then we take that same pentatonic box from Level 2 and slide it up the neck. It is the SAME five notes — just played in a new spot. Learn three connected positions and you can solo anywhere on the fretboard.

Concepts

The pentatonic box is movable — its shape never changes, only where you put it on the neck.

The three positions overlap: the top of one box is the bottom of the next. That is how you travel the neck.

A real strumming pattern: down, down-up, up-down-up. Keep your strumming hand always moving.

Graduation

Solo over a backing track, sliding between positions 1 and 2 instead of staying in one box.
