Frost Warnings

Upcoming frost conditions and the plants in the collection that may be at risk. Each plant's frost tolerance is compared against the forecast to decide which ones need protection.

When a plant is at risk

A plant is flagged when the forecast temperature drops below its frost tolerance, or when frost is expected and its tolerance is at or above freezing (32°F). Each flagged plant shows which nights are the problem and where it currently lives.

Frost protection tips

Move potted plants indoors as temperatures approach their limit; it is the most effective protection. Cover plants with frost cloth, blankets or sheets before sunset, reaching the ground to trap heat.

Water the day before a frost, since moist soil holds heat better (but keep succulents relatively dry), and mulch around the base to insulate the roots.
